‘Positive’ Changes Update

Since I’ve been inexplicable wide awake since 4 am and still have half an hour before I need to leave for the gym, I thought I’d add another post as an update of the changes I’ve been trying to make and have discussed in previous posts.  So here goes; the changes I’m trying to make are:

  • Deal with stress better
  • Sleep more
  • Exercise consistently
  • Eat smarter

Deal with stress better I’m still making an effort, but it’s not an easy problem to solve.  Last week’s Show and Tell post reminded me how much I like making things.  As the weather was fairly average this past weekend, I decided to make a ‘thing’ for my friend who is due two days after I would have been due.  I’ve been looking for something for her but not really known what to get.  And as I wanted to make a similar thing for myself – or more specifically for the baby that may never come – I thought I’d do a test run for her.  She’s having a girl, so I’ve made this for her:

I hope she likes it.  I actually thought it was fun to make.  I rather enjoyed cutting out the precise pieces.  So I’m sort of trying to reduce stress by keeping myself busy.  We’ll see how that goes.

Sleep more I guess this post’s existence shows I’m not doing a great job with that.  How can I be so tired so much of the time and still not sleep?  I’ll just move on rather than dwelling on it today. . .

Exercise consistently I’m fairly set in a routine of getting to the gym by 6 am every week day and doing whatever class is happening.  I’m such a zombie though.  I may not be sleeping, but my body still can’t manage anything but a zombie state at that time of morning.  So it’s a good thing the change I’m trying to make isn’t ‘Socialise stupidly early in the morning’ as I’d be a complete failure.  People say things to me and instead of being friendly I usually just stare blankly at them.  But exercising I’m doing; I can guarantee you that by 6:15 am each weekday I’m sweating and at least a third of a litre of water into my day.

Eat smarter I’m doing reasonably well with this.  I think I need to start cooking on the weekend to ensure there’s something yummy and healthy at home ready to heat.  I didn’t do that this past weekend, but there’s always next weekend!

In order to try to be a bit more positive, I’ve changed the name of the post category for these posts to ‘Positive Changes’.  That’s such a positive thing in itself I’m finding it rather sickly at this time of the morning.  Well, best be off to join the zombie exercise cult!

    WOW I love it ! You are so talented. It’s a great test run.
    About sleep…I found that while treating something else, acupuncture had the effect of making me sleep like a log. Also, comfy pyjamas, going to sleep before my boyfriend (he snores) and breathing, deep breathing. Just saying. I know you may not want to hear/read about it. But I hope you find yourself a cure for better sleep. I know that short nights are hard on the mood, the body and the mind.

      Maybe I’ll try some acupuncture. I actually had it once during my successful cycle – but for a torn muscle in my stomach so I doubt it had anything to do with the BFP. The only reason I tried it was becasue after my laproscopy, most of my pain was in my shoulder! So when I went to a GP and she told me the new pain in my shoulder was actually a torn stomach muscle, I said yes to her treating it with acupuncture. And it helped! I never thought of it for sleep issues, but I have been wondering about giving it a whorl for IVF.

    Your quilt is absolutely beautiful! I’m always so envious of people who are artistic or have some sort of skill. I know you’ll friend will love it!

    I’m so not a morning exerciser, so I have to commend you for that, too! I can’t get my body to move any time before 8am.

      I’m not usually a morning exerciser either; in fact my husband has been known to call me the Bed Magnet because I usually have superpowers that allow me to sleep in and read in bed like no one else! 🙂

    Your quilt is beautiful. Also, I admire how you are able to make something so beautiful for your friend even when your heart is hurting. You are a very good friend. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to be there for my friends like I would like to be. Best of luck with your positive changes!

    That blanket (quilt?) is gorgeous! I love the colors and patterns you picked. You’ve definitely got talent!

    Kudos to you for making that beautiful quilt and getting up so early to go the gym! I have tried making a few quilts, but they never end up as nice as that! I totally wish that I could drag myself out of bed and go to the gym before work. Unfortunately, I am not a morning person AT ALL, so I have to go in the evening.
